Wight Martindale, Jr. has written about a broad range of topics from business to sports to academia. His book, Inside the Cage, covers the West 4th Street summer basketball tournament, which is nearing its 50th anniversary under the leadership of the same man, Kenny Graham. This NYC tournament is more popular than ever today, regularly drawing local fans as well as sightseers from around the world.
His business book about the Levitz Furniture company, We Do It Every Day, was published in 1970. The memoir about his transition from Wall Street to academia, Don Quixote Goes to College was privately published in 2013.
His first business case study was about the collapse of Bethlehem Steel in the 1980s and the second was a brief history of Fairchild Publications, a three-generation family business best known for W and Women’s Wear Daily. He worked there as a reporter and editor for ten years. His brief comparison of Higher Education today and the Medieval Catholic Church was published as a Kindle booklet in 2014. All three are available on-line.
He publishes frequently in a scholarly journal, Academic Questions and is continuing to do research on important events in American History.
In addition, he is developing a curriculum designed to encourage college graduates called “Studies in Success and Failure.” The goal is to remind students that–like all successful people–they will fail frequently. Don’t be discouraged. Learn from your failures and move on.
